尿路結石は漢方でいう「石驟雨」（排尿時に砂利が出たり、急に排尿が途絶えたり、尿道が痛んだり、腰や腹部が耐え難いほど痛んだりすること）に属し、柴胡加竜骨牡蠣湯には尿路結石を治療する効果はない。 柴胡加竜骨牡蠣湯は、熱を和らげ清め、心を落ち着かせ静める作用がある。
柴胡加竜骨牡蠣湯には柴胡、竜骨、生姜、人参などの漢方薬が配合され、腸チフス（寒さによる発熱）、寒熱（体が熱く、冷えている）、胸満（胸の前面や側面が満ち足りて不快に感じる）、焦燥感や必死の落ち着きのなさ、せん妄（失語）、体が重く横を向くのがつらいなどの治療に用いられる。
In this formula, Chai Hu, Gui Zhi and Scutellaria baicalensis harmonise with the inside and relieve the outside to treat cold-heat exchanges and heaviness of the body; Long Bone, Oyster and Lead Dan calm down the spirit and treat irritability and frenzy; Semixia and Ginger harmonise the stomach and reduce the rebelliousness of the stomach (harmonise stomach qi and make the upward rebellious qi to descend); Rhubarb diarrhoeas the internal heat and harmonise the stomach qi; Poria sets the mind at rest and facilitates urination; Radix Panax ginseng and Jujubae benefit the vital energy and nourish yin, and support the righteousness and dispel the wickedness in the body (support the righteousness in the body and dispel the wickedness in the body).
